CUB Recognized as a "Tree Line USA Utility"
The Clinton Utilities Board (CUB) has been named a “Tree Line USA Utility” by the Arbor Day Foundation for the twelfth consecutive year. This prestigious award is given annually in recognition of national leadership on the part of utilities for performing tree trimming operations in accordance with recognized and accepted standards. A collaboration of the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters, Tree Line USA promotes the dual goals of delivering safe and reliable electricity while maintaining healthy community trees.
CUB was recognized for having achieved Tree Line USA Utility status by Mr. Tom Simpson of the Tennessee State Foresters Office during the annual celebration of Arbor Day by the City of Norris, which took place on Friday, March 7 at the Norris Elementary School. On hand to accept the award on behalf of CUB was Greg McAnally, CUB’s Right-of-Way Coordinator.
The Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship. The Tree Line USA Utility program recognizes utilities that meet five program standards. Utilities must follow industry standards for quality tree care; provide annual training for employees in best tree-care practices; sponsor a tree-planting and public education program; maintain a tree-based energy conservation program; and participate in an Arbor Day celebration.
In a press release from the Arbor Day Foundation, Dan Lambe, Vice President of programs for the Arbor Day Foundation stated, “As a result of your commitment to effective urban forest management, your customers are already enjoying the numerous benefits of community trees, including cleaner air and water, higher property values and improved quality-of-life. Trees also conserve energy and reduce peak demand, a crucial benefit to customers and providers alike. Your success in meeting Tree Line USA standards not only helps provide beautiful trees for the future, but also yields long-term savings for customers."
Of the approximately 3,000 electric utility agencies across the USA, CUB is one of only 145 to receive the Tree Line USA Utility Award.
CUB’s electric system spans six counties in Eastern Tennessee and includes some 1,500 miles of high voltage distribution lines supplying electric service to approximately 30,000 customers.
